Battlecats Vol. 3 #1 (Mad Cave Studios)
For some reason, the whole time I was reading this book, "Kill the King" by Megadeth was playing in my head. Probably because Valderia is in a perpetual state of conflict after the death of King Eramad III and our Battlecats are left leaderless and in a state of disarray.
Maybe its because Valadar has taken the throne and is ruling in such a violent and oppressive manner that I, like the Battlecats, wish to see him suffer a fate worse than Ermad. Either way, it was a good mental soundtrack for issue 1 of the final volume.
The art and color in this issue are also phenomenal setting high expectations for the final run of books. Camelo manages to perfectly capture the emotion of all of the characters in each scene, you can feel everyon's angst and anguish. Tekino absolutely crushes it in the colors department, while previewing this digitally allows some of the colors to pop, I'm going to love seeing a lot of beautiful contrasts when I'm holding this puppy in my hands in only a few short months.
Sometimes I struggle with feeling the emotion from dialogue in a book, but an excellent letterer can manipulate the mind while engaging with the dialogue, and Zapata absolutely crushes the textual design helping bring depth and meaning to London's script.
