I have so many random anti-congestion, anti-nausea, and anti-other grossness medicines coursing through my body right now, that I am a human meth lab. Let's see how coherent this first batch of reviews are:

On The Stump #1 (Image)
By: Chuck Brown, Prenzy, Clayton Cowles

I know there are a lot of folks who are on the "keep the politics out of your comics" train...which is fine, but inevitable when talking about this book.  I feel like the past 20 years has been increasingly absurdist political theater (I feel qualified to make that claim as an AP Government Teacher and a James Madison Fellow).

On the stump feels like the last step before we finally evolve into the world of Mike Judge's Idiocracy.  Before pieces of legislation make the floor of a legislative chamber, politicians have a fist fight on a literal stump, which is awesome, but is looking too close to real for me.  The first book does a stunning job of giving us the absurd legislative premise, while introducing us to the "winning" representative, who normally gets the shit kicked out of him.  Apparently, he was supposed to lose his fight because he was paid to take the L.  He doesn't and an assailant shows up to collect.

What should you do? Yeah, this is an easy buy this book, shit gets crazy, I'm intrigued by the WWFX and some fo the ass-kicking art (like the dude who has the eye punched out of his head) seems like it is going to be a solid series.

Family Tree #4 (Image)
By: Jeff Lemire, Phil Hester, Eric Gapstur, Ryan Cody

A couple weeks ago, I picked up 1-3 of this book on a whim, and this story is so wild, and unpredictable, I just can't quit it.  This book doesn't pick us up from our cliff hanger of what happens to the young girl, it jumps back to 1997 where we see a prior arboreal-evolution.  We see that similar folks are on the hunt for "the tree" but we don't get anything more than that.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT IN THE HELL IS GOING ON IN THIS BOOK, BUT I LOVE IT!!!!!!

What should you do? If you want a straightforward story, this may not be your cup of tea.  Lemire is definitely cooking up something strange, and I feel like the payoff will be worth waiting for some answers.  The art in this book is also nuts, watching the evolution of physical features, watching the use of the all-black shadow is great, and that last page...damn!

Atlantis Attacks #2 (Marvel)
By: Greg Pak, Ario Anindito, Robert Gill, Rachelle Rosenberg

The world needs more Namor!  This book immediately picks up after Namor's threat to the city of Pan and we watch the first strange interaction between the Agents of Atlas and the New Agents of Atlas (awkwaaaaaarrrrd).  This book did a good job giving additional background info on some of the New Agents (which you may have missed in the prior 6-issues of Agents of Atlas) and re-familiarizing folks with the original line-up.  This book focuses on what the New-and-Old agents Alike can do to replicate and/or return the Atlantean dragon. It also focuses on suspicions that the new agents may have of the older agents

What should you do? Look, I'm always going to say, if it's got Namor in it, you should read it...I'm intrigued to see what happens throughout the book since we saw a false-resolution mid-book, but I'm already enjoying this more than the Agents run which preceded this.

Undiscovered Country #4
By: Scott Snyder, Charles Soule, Giuseppe Camuncoli, Daniele Orladini

I never know what to expect with each new issue.  You know Destiny Man  has to be evil because he speaks only in the God/Devil/Demon typesetting.  He is one hell of a Chimera with his ghostly deer horns, his lobster claw, and his talon-hand is just intoxicating to me. I honestly don't know how to talk about the rest of this book, because I am terrified to spoil literally anything, but it's great.

What should you do? Buy all of the singles if you haven't done so already, this crew of writers and artists are really displaying a unique version of apocalyptic America.

Legion of Super-Heroes #4 (DC)
By: Brian Michael Bendis, Ryan Sook, Mikel Janin, Jordie Bellaire

This book excited me and pissed me off at the same time:
1. WE FINALLY GET TO SEE THE TRAINING FILM.
2. WE DON'T GET TO SEE THE END OF THE TRAINING FILM?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

What should Brian Michael Bendis do? Release the full transcript of the training film on line, or be impeached.
