PoserPoints #20

After a busy day of meal prepping, chasing 3 kids around and getting them to bed, and getting the house ready for tomorrow's chaos, I finally got to read some books after the kids (and wife) went to bed, here are books 1-5 from my pull list:

Bad Reception #4 (Aftershock)
By: Juan Doe

Juan Doe is one of the authors guilty for getting me to spend $$$ to buy books.  He was also THE FIRST creator who DMed me out of the blue, saying it was fun watching someone get acquainted with the world of comics.  I about shit my pants when I saw the message, and I thought it was cool that someone with his resume said hi.  So, I may be biased....BUT THIS BOOK IS AMAZING AND I AM SUPER HYPE IT IS BACK!

If you don't remember what went down during books 1-3, someone is killing a bunch of internet celebs at an "off the grid" wedding, and we are trying to figure out who the guilty party is (...of murder...and a bunch of other wild shit).  This book delivers.  We get a glimpse of Hashtag, in a glorious 2-page spread, in a fight sequence, and it really harkens back to some of the ways I described how much I love the odd form he draws characters in these sequences in my TPB review of Dark Ark).  We also discover there is a sequence to who is to be killed next, total number of online followers.  We learn this comes from a fictional setup Blaise was working on in his notebook.  We also get to watch Gaia's reaction to the secret her father was hiding after she discovered his body.  Our celebs think they are in the clear when the Helicopter finally arrives...but....nope!

What should you do?  As I said in my review of book 2, this is something everyone should be reading.  Aftershock is riding a huge wave of awesome stories at this point in time, and Doe continues to deliver!  You should definitely add this to your pull, and Juan, if you read this, you gotta let me give a quote for the TPB!

Something is Killing the Children #6 (Boom!)
By: James Tynion IV, Werther Dell'Edera, Miquel Muerto

If you saw my twitter feed at all when the trade came out, I was really freaking excited.  As I re-read the TPB, there were so many little nuggets I missed, and I have all sorts of wild scenarios planned out in my head as to what I think may happen (I'm probably wrong, because Tyinon is not all that predictable.

This book jumps back in time to the events leading up to the initial slaughter of James' friends, and what the attack looked like, and then we see him in the hospital bed (he was shot at the end of book 6 by Tommy on accident).  The police of Archer's Peak reacts to finding the den of dead bodies, and Bian shows Erica a drawing of all of the babies.  The book ends on a huge cliffhanger by introducing that the House of Slaughter is coming for Erica, proving that there is more than baby monsters she needs to worry about.

What should you do: This should be mandatory reading for anyone who is trapped during this period of social distancing, I didn't see this wild of a setup coming from the end of the first volume.

Jane Foster Valkyrie #9 (Marvel)
By: Jason Aaron, Torunn Gronbekk, Ramon Rosanas, Jesus Aburtov

Thor has a brother that is not Loki?  That's news to me (although we've established I don't know my Marvel history extensively)! We learn of how Tyr learned the secrets of the dead in Valhalla, and how he was planning to return to do something dastardly.  We also get an epic spread of Valkyrie and Thor trading blows as she tries to exercise the evil energy leaving Ode's body that is making Thor dark.  We learn that Tyr was responsible in channeling energy into Ode, but it was all a ruse to steal Valkyrie's weapon to unleash some form of darkness, and now Jane is just Jane...and shit (or bigger shit) is about to hit the fan.

What should you do? I've been high on this book since the start, and its about to get BONKERS! You can pick up from book 6-7 to dive into the new arc, or you could read it all!

Atlantis Attacks #3 (Marvel)
By: Greg Pak, Ario Anindito, Robert Gill, Rachelle Rosenberg

Why did the dragon go bonkers and attack Atlantis?  Who betrayed the new and old Agents of Atlas, and why did the Sirenas appear to help in battle?  We get answers to a couple of these questions in book 3!
1. The Sirenas deployed a device to make the dragon attack.
2. We still don't know
3. They want to attack Atlantis.

While that may spoil a little, there is still a lot to be discovered, like the amazing use of split panels to tell the story of bad blood between Atlanteans and Sirenas from each perspective.  Learning who is in favor of attacking Atlantis, and who wants to simply defend Pan.  And will Namor calm down (spoiler alert...NO), that last page is AWESOME and my dude Namor is about to go wild!

If any book includes Namor, it should be punishable by tar and feathering if you don't read it.

Deadpool #4 (Marvel)
By: Kelly Thompson, Chris Bachalo, Wayne Faucher, David Curiel

KELLY THOMPSON IS KILLING IT, AND THIS BOOK IS AN AWESOME BATTLE WITH KRAVEN-THE-LESSER.

Also, can we get more Wade and Jeff shorts?  That little teaser at the end was fun as hell to check out!

In conclusion..

Buy these books, support your LCS, and I'm going to pass out for another day of home-schoolin-kid-yogain, exhausting, fun!
