In today's third set of flash reviews, we get a new Marvel #1 and two of my favorite ongoing indies!

Iron Man #1 (Marvel)
By: Christopher Cantwell, Cafu, Frank D'Armata

I'm not traditionally a big reader/collector of Iron Man but I am a big believer in what Christopher Cantwell does (especially with his recent run on Dr. Doom) so I knew I needed to check it out. We get a new flashy Tony Stark who's not surrounded by his usual cast of characters (Pepper, Happy etc.) but we get to meet a sprinkling of new folks throughout the issue.  What's interesting is the "fast and the furious" moment in the middle of the book, and the reveal of what the first villain is targeting is quite interesting.

I'm definitely down for the second book of this series for one simple reason.  I thought Dr. Doom #1 was a bit odd and I was immediately hooked by #2 of the run.  Story good, art great, we'll se how I feel about #2 to see if it stays on the pull list.

Finger Guns #8 (Vault)
By: Tim Seeley, Sarah Beattie, Rebekah Isaacs, Kurt Michael Russell

Literally the only thing I have to say about this book, is page 2 offers a perfect encapsulation of how we get sucked into a political cult of personality and how our perceptions of reality shift based on which talking head we swear allegiance to. It's sheer brilliance.  Holy crap, the end means book 9 is going to be WILD AS HELL!!!!

Once and Future #11 (Boom Studios)
By: Kieron Gillen, Dan Mora and Tamra Bonvillain

I have not laughed so hard while reading a comic in a long time.  The epic battle with Grendel is hilarious with the dialogue.  Gran describing what went down to the residents of the home, I had trouble breathing.  How the next villain is introduced, sheer brilliance.  I feel like this is all I can say without potentially spoiling anything, but it is worth the price of admission.

This is one of my favorite books going on right now and the ability of the whole creative team to switch from dark and scary to this funny shows why I love the flexibility of the title.
