King of Nowhere #3 (Boom Studios)
By: W. Maxwell Prince, Tyler Jenkins, Hilary Jenkins

This book slowly starts to answer some of the questions that have popped up in 1-2.  While we don't know why Denis is being hunted, his string of destructively bad luck continues...and we may learn who is pulling the strings behind the hunter.  We don't know what makes Nowhere so special or unique in terms of its inhabitants...yet...but we might in book 4.

I enjoy how this entire issue feels like it is narrated by an outsider, but you don't really know who is speaking.  We get the same sorts of Denis-adjacent chaos, we get to see more into the head of the Sheriff's daughter (and his relationship with his wife), we get to see two lovely fish-persons enjoying their anniversary and worrying about their son...and we get an ominous figure wandering the beach in a haz-mat suit and a geiger counter (I think) but no explanation.

I don't know what Prince and the Jenkins team have cooking for the rest of this arc, but it's about to get bigger and presumably more destructive.  If you haven't gotten yourself a bus pass to visit the town of Nowhere, you should right this mistake immediately!

Reaver #9 (Image/Skybound)
By: Justin Jordan and Niko Henrichon

There is a story about Cincinnatus, a simple Roman farmer who did not want to answer the call to public service.  He wanted to be a simple man who wanted to work on his farm...until Rome was invaded...he then put down his plow and picked up his sword and led the Romans to victory. Upon his victory, he immediately relinquished power and returned to the farm.  That decisive act of leadership and humility has earned him a place in history. Cincinnatus has been compared to folks like George Washington, and even John Rambo.

This is also the tale of Essen Breaker.  We have learned throughout the first three books of this arc, he no longer wants to break and destroy men.  He wants to fade into the shadows as just another ordinary man.  That is...until he is pushed.  Essen Breaker when pushed will use his sheer strength to topple anyone who prods him and eliminates his desire to be peaceful.  This book is several brilliant pages of Breaker attempting to give him self into the whim of law and order, and then lashing out when legitimacy fails. Also, my favorite, Rekala gets to feast on skin again...and it's glorious!

While I was unsure as to whether or not I was going to pick up arc 2 in the face of everything else new I've fallen in love with during the pause...I'm glad I did, because this may now be one of my favorite ongoing series!  You should give it a read too!

This book gave me everything I dreamed of and more.  The following things happen, with no context given:
  • Head in a Jar
  • Head removed by Chains
  • Someone fighting an underground network
  • A coke-orgy
  • A sword-wielding dominatrix
  • A massive freaky clown-person-thing
  • A book, that apparently stabs people in the hand
  • AND MORE!!!!!

This title is amazing, and I can't wait to keep flying through this world because its absurdity makes the nightmare we are currently living in seem less batshit-crazy!
