Poser Points #1 (still working on the name...)

In fishing for what kinds of things folks liked in reviews, the consensus was to focus on shorter, more down-and dirty analysis with a quick recommendation of whether or not you should buy the book, throw the singles on your pull list, wait for the trade, or ignore all together.  So we'll try this and see if I like writing this way or not...

Something is Killing the Children #5 (Boom Studios)
by: James Tynion IV, Werther Dell'Edera and Miquel Muerto

I have been hot on this book since its release (issue 1 review, issue 2 review), with no negative thoughts whatsoever!  In this book, we pick up in what we believe is the food stash for the monster which has been tormenting Archer's Peak.  We finally get some action and get to see why Erica is the only one who can see the monster, and how she can assist others.  We finally get a name for the person on the other end of Erica's phone calls and discover that all monster hunters have some sort of stuffed animal with them (weird...but ok).  Just as it seems like our hero has the situation under control, we learn she couldn't be any farther from the truth.

The art in this book is super on point, and Dell'Edera and Muerto keep creating elements which are as engaging as the storyline.

What should you do? 1. Buy the singles, 2. Buy the Variants, 3. Buy the trades.  If you do none of these, you are missing a masterpiece

Thor #2 (Marvel)
By: Donny Cates, Nic Klein, Matt Wilson

I was hyped for Thor #1 and when Jason reviewed it on the Chop Shop podcast, I knew it had to be golden.

This issue focuses on the working dynamic between Galactus and his newly repaired herald, Thor.  It is interesting to think of what Thor, God of Thunder and King of Asgard can do with is newly granted gift in the power cosmic.  While the story here stays simplistic in showing how well these two work together, it is really setting up who the villain of the story arc is (bookended by the first two and last two pages).

What sets this book apart however is the art.  The combination of Klein and Wilson on pencils and colors creates a beautiful vision of each of the worlds/areas of space the characters travel through.  This is the kind of book I'd love to blow up some pages to put on a wall, because in all aspects it is truly stunning.

What should you do? 1. Buy the singles, 2. Pray to the gods that they release a giant edition of the trade like they did for Silver Surfer Black.

Jessica Jones: Blind Spot #2 (Marvel)
By: Kelly Thompson and Mattia De Iulis

I loved book one of this series.
Everything I said about book one still rings true.  The sarcastic tone is amazing, the art is on fire.

Book two continues the whodunnit by trying to a. Figure out who shot Jessica in the dome and b. figure out how she survived.  You also discover that there may be a pattern to some additional killings of "D-list female superheroes" which is a hilarious aside.  A good continuation book with the potential reveal of who/what we are dealing with in book 3.

What should you do? 1. Buy the singles, not sure if you'd need the trades....

Killadelphia#3 (Image)
By: Rodney Barnes, Jason Shawn Alexander, Luis NCT

First, I want a T-Shirt of that cover #ZombieJohnAdams

The opening pages give me everything I wanted: a continuation of the Vampire Morgue Murder spree, Father vs. Son shit talking, and the explanation of how John Adams "footnote of presidential history" becomes a Vampire. The spread in the middle of the book showing the evolution of men through the march of time is brilliant. This book may have not been as action-packed as the last, but the evolutionary dynamic of the Adams' relationship is quite a good one in addition to seeing how the turncoat-Vampire will continue his quest to take down Adams, or be foiled as things are just beginning.

What should you do? 1. Buy the singles 2. Pray that this becomes a HBO Series replacing the other John Adams (sorry Paul Giamatti).

In Conclusion

The top 4 books of my stack were all hits in my book.  Time to grab a quick drink, work on some pieces for students, and read some more!
