Mad Cave Studios Review #1

5/17/2020

I have heard buzz building surrounding titles from Mad Cave Studios. On Friday, they hosted a live product showcase featuring interviews, previews, a live drawing session and more! After spending 4-5 hours in awe, I started flipping through their free offerings of some of their titles, and quickly made a purchase! Here are the first three titles I checked out!

Battlecats #1
By: Mark London, Andy King, Alejandro Giraldo, Miguel Zapata and Christian Ospina

Battlecats is a fantasy epic where we learn the cats have been summoned by the King to go slay the Dire Beast.  I'll hands down take on any title with a Dire Beast, Questing Beast, or even feline heroes!  Everything is going just fine until the Battlecats are ambushed by a mass of forces unbeknownst to them, and now they have two things to now take care of: first, who sent the ambush; and then track and slay the beast.

This is one of the titles that four pages in, I knew I was going to need more and purchased the bundle with both TPB volumes.  The third arc will begin as distribution resumes and continues to normalize.  The art is fantastic.  The detail of the characters and their armor, the epic battle scenes which use every possible inch of page space (and even appears to hop outward in one moment).  The colors throughout really draw you in to this new-to-you world.  I'd highly recommend picking this one up!

Knights of the Golden Sun #1
By: Mark London, Mauricio Villarreal

I wasn't 100% certain what I was expecting from the cover, but to see this book as a tale set around the fall of man whilst playing with biblical characters is quite unique to me.  The plot is simple: God has abdicated the throne, and for 400 years, no one has able to successfully tell a biblical story which sounds close enough to some of the original stories without feeling like the focus is to proselytize (like other biblical comics). The story is intriguing, the art is epic, and the first trade is out with books 1-7 included.  This is the other title I definitely purchased, and can't wait for it to ship!

In Conclusion

Mad Cave is legit.  I've read 4-5 books already, and on payday, I'll make another pick-up! I'll post more Mad Cave reviews soon, I just need to leave my house before I feel like I have to burn it to the ground!
