In mid-April of this year, Richard Kemp approached me about previewing his upcoming release of War Priest #1 through Ashcan Comics Pub./ACP Studios. As you can tell by the tone of the review, I absolutely love what he had going on in this issue (and I'm yearning for #2!!!). Flash forward to this July and I get another AWESOME surprise in my email from Richard.... Don't Ever Blink #1 (Kickstarter) |
This immediately brought several questions that drove me to want more: 1. Who is this woman, and why is she contemplating stabbing the man in the jugular? 2. If she is having second thoughts, why? 3. Who hurt Richard Kemp? because the gory detail has to come from a dark place! (Just kidding, it is AMAZING! What we come to discover in the following pages is that: A woman survives a harrowing and horrific ordeal, the massacre of her fiance and his family while at a family get-together, but not without her also being scarred for life in more than one way; Tinsley Marissa Grace is found alive but her eyes have been sewn together -- a calling card of a killer that has eluded the local authorities for years, a killer that they thought was long gone. |
Thank goodness the press release can help offer some context to what is going on! Don’t Ever Blink is the return of Mercy K, and in the second coming of the killer, the killer has evolved and has taken on the mantle of “Angel of Death,” utilizing the cult following to send an apocalyptic message to the small town, warning everyone that -- “He’s coming back for us all, in a blink of an eye we will all be changed, and we shall SEE so DON’T EVER BLINK.” Four years after the original murders, Detective Rendall Robinson and his partner Detective Vicki Lopez are back on the case and are determined to catch Mercy K this time around and their best chance of doing so is the only person to ever survive the killer-- Tinsley Marissa Grace. |
This is a creative team offering a good story that I guarantee you will deliver!
Frank returns home from WW1 to his family’s farm to find them missing sending him on a physical and psychological journey that tears apart his mind, body and soul.
Frank At Home On The Farm is a period, body-horror, mystery that tells the story of a man returning from the First World War to find his family mysteriously missing from their farm. This sets in motion a series of events that claw and tear at Frank's mind, body, and soul.
Tormented by nightmares of the front line, the mysterious voices that plague him and disturbed by the townsfolk's lack of knowledge or interest in his family's whereabouts, Frank becomes more and more isolated on the farm as he tries to uncover where his parents have vanished to... all under the watchful eye of the farm's animals. Anything I missed?
1. Interview with Kris Hornett
2. Preview of Chapter 1
3. The Unveiling of Chapter 1
This has been simply one of the coolest creator-owned projects I have gotten to review this year. So, let's crack open Chapter 2: Nimbus
Grey: Chapter 2, Nimbus
By: Kris Hornett, Ardee Arollado
I am anticipating this book to pick up after the heart-pounding final pages of Chapter 1: Hello Winter. Do we find the significance of the mask? Do we get more details on the confrontation at the end? We'll see!
The book opens with a press conference with the commissioner, as the media are demanding information about the events at the fashion festival...and then...this happens:
The man who is exploding via internal worms, arrived a the press conference spewing some typical doomsday or cultist talking points....and then....well....he erupts in an annelid-ic cloud. Gross! But I'll take another shot to shout-out the art work here. The detail and texturing in the background is awesome, and then seeing all of the odd details all over the body of the man as he is bursting at the pores with creepy crawlies. The panels just before and after this image are all amazing and worth the price of admission alone! |
What should you do? Look, book one had MASSIVE HYPE and it DELIVERED. Book 2 successfully keeps the intensity level and story line driving to make me want to know what's happening in book 3, YESTERDAY! You are a full if you miss out on reading this book. You can and MUST order chapter 1-2 and get lost in the world of Grey!
