In mid-April of this year, Richard Kemp approached me about previewing his upcoming release of War Priest #1 through Ashcan Comics Pub./ACP Studios. As you can tell by the tone of the review, I absolutely love what he had going on in this issue (and I'm yearning for #2!!!).

Flash forward to this July and I get another AWESOME surprise in my email from Richard....

Don't Ever Blink #1 (Kickstarter)
By: Brian Hawkins and Richard Kemp

A killer that sews the eyelids of victims shut stalks a small town. However, when one of the victims actually survives, a mystery begins to unravel that not only shakes the very foundation of the town, but may also have apocalyptic consequences.

What waited for me in my email was a 10-page preview of the title they'd be kickstarting in the fall.  My mind was blown away. In the past 6 months, I have really fallen in love with thriller/horror comics, and I'd put this in the realm with two of my favorites in Nailbiter and Bad Reception, and I don't even have the full context of the story!

The first page I set my eyes on was:
Picture
This immediately brought several questions that drove me to want more:

1. Who is this woman, and why is she contemplating stabbing the man in the jugular?

2. If she is having second thoughts, why?

3. Who hurt Richard Kemp? because the gory detail has to come from a dark place! (Just kidding, it is AMAZING!

What we come to discover in the following pages is that: A woman survives a harrowing and horrific ordeal, the massacre of her fiance and his family while at a family get-together, but not without her also being scarred for life in more than one way; Tinsley Marissa Grace is found alive but her eyes have been sewn together -- a calling card of a killer that has eluded the local authorities for years, a killer that they thought was long gone.
Thank goodness the press release can help offer some context to what is going on!

Don’t Ever Blink is the return of Mercy K, and in the second coming of the killer, the killer has evolved and has taken on the mantle of “Angel of Death,” utilizing the cult following to send an apocalyptic message to the small town, warning everyone that -- “He’s coming back for us all, in a blink of an eye we will all be changed, and we shall SEE so DON’T EVER BLINK.” Four years after the original murders, Detective Rendall Robinson and his partner Detective Vicki Lopez are back on the case and are determined to catch Mercy K this time around and their best chance of doing so is the only person to ever survive the killer-- Tinsley Marissa Grace.

In short, the story is thrilling, the art is PHENOMENAL  and the creative team is on the verge of releasing an EPIC thriller you don't want to miss out on!  Guess what, you have the ability to get in at the ground level TODAY starting at 9am EST as the Kickstarter officially opens for backing!  The plan is an eventual 5-issue arc AND MORE (and I'll share more when Richard allows me to).

This is a creative team offering a good story that I guarantee you will deliver!

If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times recently...I LOVE SCOUT COMICS!  Each one of their stories are unique and powerful in their own way.  While there are several great current horror tales, there are literally titles to fit the needs of any type of reader.  When I checked my email this afternoon, I was excited to see another new title announced this afternoon!
Picture
Scout offers the following synopsis of the title:
Frank At Home On The Farm is a period, body-horror, mystery that tells the story of a man returning from the First World War to find his family mysteriously missing from their farm. This sets in motion a series of events that claw and tear at Frank's mind, body, and soul.
Tormented by nightmares of the front line, the mysterious voices that plague him and disturbed by the townsfolk's lack of knowledge or interest in his family's whereabouts, Frank becomes more and more isolated on the farm as he tries to uncover where his parents have vanished to... all under the watchful eye of the farm's animals. "
The title is written by Jordan Thomas and art by Clark Bint.

You can tell Scout thinks this comic is going to be a HIT with all of the branded merchandise you can already find up on their store.  From fanny packs to face masks, they've got you covered!

If you all have missed my coverage of Vlad Dracul on my youtube channel, this is one of the books I've become the most excited about in the last two months.  But it is straight fire and far different than any other approach to Vlad I've seen in any other book (like it doesn't focus on the whole VAMPIRE) piece.

In an announcement from Scout's President James Haick:
"We are excited to announce that BOTH Vlad Dracul #1 and #2 will be going back to print and available in late September. Both are NOW available for preorder. Use order codes JUL208673 for issue one and JUL208674 for issue two when requesting this great series at your local comic shop!"

I'm thoroughly excited for not just the folks over at Scout, but specifically Matteo Strukul and Andrea Mutti who have created a sheer masterpiece!

You should also check out the Scout Comics subscription box, it is an amazing deal!

Poser Previews: Grey Chapter 2: Nimbus

If you have missed my shouting from the rooftops about how amazing Grey is.  Let me give you a reading/viewing list before you read this preview:
1. Interview with Kris Hornett
2. Preview of Chapter 1
3. The Unveiling of Chapter 1

This has been simply one of the coolest creator-owned projects I have gotten to review this year.  So, let's crack open Chapter 2: Nimbus

Grey: Chapter 2, Nimbus
By: Kris Hornett, Ardee Arollado

OH MY GOD, I THINK THAT'S AN INHYUK LEE COVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (flips to credits page....) OH MY GOD THAT IS AN INHYUK LEE COVER!!!!!!!!!!!! How cool is that, for the second book in this series that it lands a heavy hitter with freaking amazing covers for several MAJOR publishers? HELL YES.

I am anticipating this book to pick up after the heart-pounding final pages of Chapter 1: Hello Winter.  Do we find the significance of the mask?  Do we get more details on the confrontation at the end? We'll see!

The book opens with a press conference with the commissioner, as the media are demanding information about the events at the fashion festival...and then...this happens:
Picture
The man who is exploding via internal worms, arrived a the press conference spewing some typical doomsday or cultist talking points....and then....well....he erupts in an annelid-ic cloud.  Gross!

But I'll take another shot to shout-out the art work here.  The detail and texturing in the background is awesome, and then seeing all of the odd details all over the body of the man as he is bursting at the pores with creepy crawlies.  The panels just before and after this image are all amazing and worth the price of admission alone!
We don't get to see Shuyin until 1/3 of the way in, because he's in his room still haunted by the events of the previous day. As he begins to share the details with the group, you can see his wheels are spinning, but he's not still100% back to himself (who would be after that last issue?)....And then, everything is interrupted by....
Picture
Holy crap!  This is literally Anonymous (who is terrifying) with rabbit ears (which makes it oddly creepier), ready to start releasing what they know to the rest of the world! Which will be another wild shake-up to the story, and I want to know how it will rock book 3.

What should you do? Look, book one had MASSIVE HYPE and it DELIVERED. Book 2 successfully keeps the intensity level and story line driving to make me want to know what's happening in book 3, YESTERDAY! You are a full if you miss out on reading this book.  You can and MUST order chapter 1-2 and get lost in the world of Grey!
