Symbiote Spider-Man: Alien Reality #5 (Marvel)
By: Peter David, Greg Land, Jay Leisten, Frank D'Armata

There is a reason why this book was the only Marvel title I picked up (until I can snag my X-stuff from my main spot) is it's INSANE!

As Peter and the good Doctor fight to escape from the Nightmare, a couple of dope things happen! The funniest to me is the explanation of a retcon, and then the art splash panels that come after it, and the pantheon of dope Marvel characters from across history.

This book's art is exceptional, and I may love it a little bit more than I did Silver Surfer Black (which might be my favorite...) I think this arc is done, but at the end it says Symbiote Spider-Man will return, so is it part of Alien Reality, do we get the third arc with the same setup but a new villain?

What should you do? I love this title, it and its predecessor are the only readable Spider-Man title at the moment, it is so much fun, and the art is crazy fun!

Dead Body Road: Bad Blood #2 (Image)
By: Justin Jordan, Benjamin Tiesma, Mat Lopes

I'm late to the party on this one.  I didn't read the original series (I'm going to change that!) and I didn't pick up #1 until #2 came out today.  But I'm glad I did.

I'll warn you that this is an entirely speculative review until I pick up series 1 on digital (until I can find floppies). But we are seeing the aftermath of some burned buildings, some kick ass action, an epically talented female combatant, and most of all some retribution.

I'm going to let this sink in before I go read the first series.  Do I think you need to read series 1 to get into this? No.  Do I think it will be some icing on the cake to help understand what the woman is attempting to flee from? Yes!

I think ya'll should pick it up....#ToddReedWasRight

PoserPoints #63--Will Lost Soldiers leave a trail of That Texas Blood on a Rogue Planet?

Lost Soldiers #1 (Image)
By: Ales Kot, Luca Casalanguida, Heather Marie, Lawrence Moore, Aditya Bidikar, Tom Muller

Look, if any book starts with a Bell Hooks quote, I'm going to fall in love.  On the interior of the cover, it begins with:
"The first act of violence that patriarchy demands of males is not violence toward women. Instead patriarchy demands of all males that they engage in acts of psychic self-mutilation, that they kill off the emotional parts of themselves. If an individual is not successful in emotionally crippling himself, he can count on patriarchal men to enact rituals of power that will assault his self-esteem.”
This does an excellent job of setting the frame for what is going on in this issue.  In terms of the plot, we meet a cluster of soldiers going through two spots in time: Vietnam and prepping for a current mission in Mexico.  It has a very "Space Cowboys" feel to it where you are seeing some snapshots back to the old guard violent younger days, and how it has taken a toll on them throughout the entirety of their lives.

What should you do? This is a beautiful story that needs to be told about the hell of war. I also think the Hooks quote is an amazing choice to get us all thinking about the subject matter! The art in this is also killer.  When I do my weekly review show on Monday, I'll show the sheer insanity of some of the panels, and it took my breath away.

That Texas Blood #2 (Image)
By: Chris Condon and Jacob Phillips

The biggest disappointment of this issue is that we don't get a second appearance of the casserole dish!  But, it is a great second issue.  We get to meet Randy, the brother of the man who was the murderer in issue 1.  What we get, is the hint that there is a lot of bad blood between those two and the town, and we barely get the tip of the iceberg!

While the first issue had a lot of good laughs that turned mighty serious at the end, the second does a great job setting up some longitudinal questions for the length of the series, and I'm here for the party!

What should you do? Yeah, this book is hot, and it's picking up more heat as more folks keep talking about it, and it's worth it.  I think Condon and Phillips have set the hook in all of us and will be spending a bunch of issues reeling us in!

Rogue Planet #3 (Oni Press)
Cullen Bunn, Andy MacDonald, Nick Filardi

Look, Cullen Bunn in space rocks, Andy and Nick crush it on the art.  I never see each small twist coming, and I love it.

If you ain't readin this book, you are a fool!

The Weekly Pull 7.29

It is just past my 1 year anniversary of being back in the comic book game.  On July 24, 2019 I arose from the mist and descended upon Chops Comics to pick up House of X #1!  Sadly, I couldn't go into the shop today because my man Jason is sick, and is closing the shop for 2 weeks.  I needed to fill my urge to read some new books.  So instead of picking up EVERYTHING in my weekly pull list video:
I had to decide what new books to pick up from the "other" shop in town.  To make sure I wasn't fully cheating on my main spot, I used the following criteria to decide which books to pick up, and which books to savor for later:

1. Is there something for sale which is not on my pull list at Chops that I would like to read?
2. Is there something ON my pull list which I don't mind buying twice!

Here's the reading order for the week:
1. That Texas Blood #2 (Image)
2. Rogue Planet #3 (Oni)
3. Lost Soldiers #1 (Image)
4. Symbiote Spider-Man Alien Reality #5 (Marvel)
5. FCBD Archie/Riverdale
6. Dead Body Road 1-2 (Image/Skybound)
7. TMNT 101-107 (IDW)
8. TMNT Annual (IDW)

Extra Credit
Pulp Hardcover
Bill and Ted Omnibus
Thor 5 (2nd Printing--cover is DOPE)
Spider-Woman #2 (On Sale Wednesday Variant)
New Previews Magazine

The only thing I didn't find which I'll have to check out digitally is Nailbiter Returns #3 (because I read all 6 trades of Nailbiter last night....and I need more)!

Is there anything else I missed? Something I should check out that you recommend?  Hit Me Up! Let me know!

I also did a small live haul video on Instagram where you can see these beauties on the screen, and see what else we chatted about!!

My main lcs is closed for 14 days due to potential COVID symptoms so I checked out spot B and picked some things up. Come see what’s new to me or what I’m willing to pay for twice once my main spot re opens!!!

Giant-Size X-Men: Magneto
By: Jonathan Hickman, Ramon Perez, David Curiel

I enjoyed this little one shot...it's not as much as focusing on Magneto...but what he is willing to do for Emma Frost.  She wants an island to make her own.

ALL THAT MATTERS IS WE GET A NAMOR APPEARANCE!!!! Namor owns the island Magneto is wanting to purchase for Emma, so he goes on a trench-venture and they have to fight a Kraken.  At the end of the trench-venture Magneto picks up something that I don't want to spoil, but we also don't fully know its significance yet! But based on what he has to go through to get it, it must be pretty important!

What should you do? Ya'll know I'm gonna gobble up every X title, especially as we get closer and closer to X of Swords.  I'm gonna study all of these and prepare a large youtube to-do to educate the peoples as we get ready for their first event post HoX/PoX.

Strange Adventures #3 (DC)
Tom King, Mitch Gerads, Evan Shaner

I did not enjoy #2 all that much, but book three bounced back!  It was fun to see his random conversations with Superman and Hawkman about what to do given his predicament.

We also start to get flashbacks to a gladiatorial act of combat which may be our first glimpse into what he's being accused of? It also serves as some additional backstory on Strange and his wife!

What should you do? I'm still enjoying the slow burn of this book in the same way I enjoyed Mister Miracle (even though I didn't have to wait and binged it in the trade!).  If you haven't hopped on yet, you should because they're selling out pretty quickly!

Spider-Woman #2 (Marvel)
By: Karla Pacheco, Pere Perez, Frank D'Armata

She's back in black and is on a bit of a rampage in this issue!  We discover that Jessica vomited up green goo at the end of #1 because she was intentionally poisoned so she could be experimented on to help discover another cure for a cancer.  When she is injected with a partial cure, it makes her stronger and more aggressive (she makes a PMS joke) and she goes to raid a lab to find the last portion of her father's cure.

What she finds, and the end result seems pretty significant, and I'm excited for #3.

What should you do? I like Jessica Drew, and while this isn't your typical Spider-Woman story, I like the different direction it's taking for now because its partially re-examining the origin of her powers and it's pretty sweet!
