#PoserPoints 55---AWA is Bringing the HEAT!!!!!!

Red Border #2 (AWA)
By: Jason Starr, Will Conrad, Ivan Nunes

This book was everything I needed based off of my feelings from number 1. Spoiler Alert, the folks who's house they show up to....NOT GOOD....

The reason I like this book, is the movies it made me recollect.  If I had to summarize book 2 in movies only, it'd be: House of 1000 Corpses + Get Out + Cabin Fever = Amazing.  The art in this book is great.  The story line is intriguing about whether or not folks can genuinely help border crossers along the Texas border.  In this book, the answer is no...and I still think the chimmy-changas are Soylent Green....

Die #11 (Image)
Kieron Gillen, Stephanie Hans, Clayton Cowles

These are two trades I picked up during quarantine/shutdown and I quickly got in to!  This book is the simple setup to arc 3 updating us on the status of our party during their divided quest on whether or not they stay in the world or if they have to leave.  There are SO MANY small reveals about each of the characters in book 11 which shocked me for that much development this late, but it is why Gillen is a great writer, and the rest of the creative team delivers on the art, colors and lettering.  This book is in the running for a potential pick of the week.

Batman: The Smile Killer (DC Black)
By: Jeff Lemire, Andrea Sorrentino, Jordie Bellaire

Look. There are a couple of things you need to know about me:
1. I Love Jeff Lemire
2. I Loved Joker: Killer Smile
3. This might be the perfect story hook to me
4. If it is only a one-shot, I'll still love Lemire, but I'll be sad.

This book is one hell of a what-if, and it just delivers.  There were a lot of folks when discussing the Joker asked whether or not we met the real Joker, or if it were a specter of his mental illness. This comic delivers on that same theme, but creates the what-if with Bruce Wayne! This book from the story to the art to the color all stick the landing, and it might be one of my favorite books ever!!!!!

Once & Future #8 (Boom!)
By: Kieron Gillen, Dan Mora, Tamra Bonvillain

As I noted in the previews video, I am hooked to this series.  What was (I believe) initially a 6-issue run focusing solely on the Arthurian legend, it has expanded successfully into the world of Beowulf.

In this book, we get the first full appearance of the subject of the epic poem.  We get to witness Merlin marshal the peace between Arthur and Beowulf, and we get to see what happens when Beowulf crosses into the living realm from elseworld.

If you like MMOs or TTRPGs then you should be reading this book!

PoserPoints #52 --Batman discovers That Texas Blood in a Flash

Batman #93 (DC)
By: James Tynion IV, Guillem March, Javier Feranadez, Tomeu Morey, David Baron and Clayton Cowles

Look...I like everyone else was afraid the reveal of the designer was going to be a flop.  I've enjoyed what Tynion has done, how he's carried the heft after King's epic run...but if this reveal would flop, it'd all be in doubt.

HOLY COW, THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You should check out my boomerang reaction on instagram....I was shocked!!!!!!

That Texas Blood #1 (Image)
By: Chris Condon and Jacob Phillips

OHMYGOD WHO KNEW A CASSEROLE DISH WOULD BE SO ENTHRALLING!

This book was dope.  The slow build throughout got me into the character of the aging sheriff of a small Texas town. I knew the dish would have something to do in the end...but the "AT LEAST I FOUND THE DISH" line left my jaw agape.

The other thing I loved about this, was the QR code in the back.  As ya'll know, as I've interviewed folks, I've been asking a playlist question. THESE CATS ARE THE 2ND BOOK I'VE READ THAT INCLUDE A PLAYLIST.

Too many all-caps, but this book is going to be solid, and if you don't add it to your pull, something is clearly wrong with you.

Flash #756 (DC)
By: Joshua Williamson, Christian Duce, Luis Guerrero, Steve Wands

Again, I was super excited for the coming of this book.  After Flash helped bring back the Reverse to help him fight and takedown Paradox, and then was double-crossed what comes next?  This is a good set-up issue to the next arc.  Who are the two forces coming together?  The flash family vs the Legion of Zoom!

I love the Flash having to show up in different areas and explaining why the F he brought back Reverse Flash.

It's going to be hard to knock me off of hyping this book right now! It is SO GOOD

Did you think I forgot about needing to make a pull list post??  My kiddos were busy and wanted to play outside all day yesterday, because we had an uncannily beautiful day for late June in Kansas.  Usually its 96+ with something like 80% humidity, but none of that was true yesterday!  I also got to spend a while at the shop interviewing Mathew Klickstein (aftershock--You Are Obsolete) which was exciting (and I'll post something this weekend) and last night I also interviewed Jared Lujan about Dryfoot.  So it was a great day, and I'm sorry I missed all of you!

But More Importantly!  Here's the weekly pull in reading order: (I got everything in the pull list video AND MORE!)
1. That Texas Blood #1 (Image)
2. Batman #93 (DC)

PoserPreviews--Engineward

I for some reason have not been reading a lot of comics from Vault.  I do not have a defensible explanation why.  There are only two titles I'm actively pulling: Money Shot and Finger Guns..and based on what I've read today, at least one more Vault title is making the list!

Engineward #1 (Vault)---Releases  7/15 (preorders close 6/22)
By: George Mann, Joe Eisma, Michael Garland, Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou

Engineward takes place in some sort of rugged world (described as "when primal chaos remained wild). We are introduced to a small crew of folks who are out salvaging while looking for a specific item they dig from a rock wall...when all of a sudden they are attacked by a worm/dinosaur/tremor which they quickly dispatch of!

But to label this world as prehistoric would date it incorrectly as there is are robots and other forms of technology used...which makes you wonder why outwardly the civilizations don't look fully technologically enhanced.

After we meet some of the ordinary citizens, things descend into a large bath house where we meet some zodiac-themed beings (either gods or nobles; like Cancer, Capricorn and Leo) where they are on the verge of something ritualistic, which we don't get to see...and we finally discover the nature of the item our opening characters pulled from the rock...and it don't look good!

Should you preorder this book?

I'm intrigued enough by this title to add it to the pull list for a couple of issues.  I'm intrigued by what the zodiac characters have to do throughout all of this, in addition to how the discovered object will shake the village in the near future.

If you like science fiction stories, or stories with a great deal of Mythos, then Engineward should definitely be on your radar. The story gets more interesting with each little nugget we discover about the past, and there is some sort of unknown complexity to the relationship between the individuals of the village AND the zodiacs.

The art in this book is also quite excellent, as the action scenes have nuance, the environment around dialogue-heavy panels, and just the contrast of the dusty old village to the opluent house of the zodiacs really pops.

Preorders for this book close on the 22nd, so you should quickly reach out to your LCS to make sure you have a copy!
