I unironically listened to Chick Magnet and other AMAZING tracks on Life in General back in 1996 that I think I had to go through 3-4 different versions of that CD because it hit my middle and high school self pretty hard! Tracks like Chick Magnet, The Wonder Years, Do Your Feet Hurt and Southbound were in heavy rotation (especially when I started driving my 2-tone blue 1986 Chevy Chevette in 1998 or 1999). Every time something pops up from them it gets an instant listen!
On Friday, they released a cover of one of their favorite band's tracks: Unstoppable by the Planet Smashers.
This cover is absolutely amazing! While I miss the ska undertones from the Planet Smashers (can we get a Ska revival please?) they do this 2005 classic absolute justice. The other thing I love about MXPX is that they still sound the same. Same angst, same classic vocal tones, that this is a timecapsule of 12 year old me. You should definitely give both tracks a listen if you are a fan of one or both bands.
